What is the average (or ideal size) of a finished app?  I heard the Max was 2GB which sounded very big…I couldn't imagine anyone downloading a 2GB app via WiFi even.

But when you are working on an app what do you have in your mind as a point where you are thinking…'ah, this is getting too big, I want to keep it around…”?

depends on what you are building. if it is a simple utility application, keep in under 5mb. if its a game, it can goto 20mb. If its some kind of video tutorial thing then it can be till around 100mb.

More than 100mb becomes a real pain downloading over wifi and people might not realize that your app is so big so its taking time to download. they might just think its something buggy and taking too much time and just cancel the download.

Thank you for the reply Frosty.  What I ended up doing was to look in my iTunes app folder.  I have a bunch of apps. Here's what I found:  The two largest groups of file sizes were those apps below 1MB and (almost an equal amount of) apps that were 1-10MB. Then the sizes jumped up to 30MB-80MB but sparingly and usually these were hi-quality type games (car racing games in my case).

So to be more specific, I want to generally shoot for under 1 MB, or under 10MBs depending on my apps use of graphics and sound.  I'll leave the 30-80MB apps to the big gamers for now.

Thank you again.
