I'm having a lot of trouble keeping an array of labels in my application (I know I could probably use a table, but I have my reasons)

Thing is, when I call the method to initialize and add my labels as subviews to the current view, it all works fine. My array is full of labels, all is good. But then I need to call a function to update the data in these labels (accessed via a button) and when I get there my arrays are junk and have lost the references to the labels.

Does anyone have any pointers for how to use an array of labels in code and update their data from the array?
